About Me

Who’s Hambel?

Fun fact: In the 1960s and 1970s, my Grandpa Hambel did gospel magic and that was his advertising campaign.  “Who’s Hambel?”  They had t-shirts made.  And psychedelic suit jackets.  As I was Heather Hambel prior to getting married, I have stolen this catchphrase  and would also steal the t-shirts and psychedelic jackets if I could.

Little Round Top
This is an old picture.

Anyway, I’m in my dirty thirties, which means I was born in the previous century.  I have anxiety.  I’m a mom to two boys, have a full time day job; I’m a perfectionist and an overachiever. Coincidentally, I’m also a quitter, as in the span of my thirty-something years I have quit:

  • Ballet
  • Piano lessons
  • Flute
  • Sorority
  • Puppeteering
  • Going to the gym

If my brain was a room, it would be pink and glittery, with suede lounges, beaded curtains, lava lamps, and disco balls.  It would probably smell faintly of Nutella.  However, right in the middle of the room would be a big, angled black leather couch with Loki and Bucky Barnes perched on the edge, looking all dark and seductive.  Conclusion: I’m happiness and cheer (probably because I’m medicated), but boy do I love dark and creepy.  What can I say, I grew up during the age of Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, and Return to Oz.

Although I started out by only writing–and wanting to write–historical fiction, I’ve turned into a paranormal princess.  I write contemporary paranormal (The Lazarus Society series) and also historical/paranormal mashups (Haunt and Marked).  And I still write historical!  The whole spectrum!  You can read more about my books by clicking here.

I’m represented by awesome agent, Rossano Trentin of TZLA Literary and Film Agency.

A recent picture!

I’m a fake red-head.  I’m unfiltered when it comes to my unhealthy obsession with anything a girl can fangirl over.  And I’m obsessed with tattoos.

I also enjoy One Direction, chinese food, running, sarcasm, and Marvel. I don’t enjoy high-waisted pants, climbing ladders, or soy sauce.  Also: balloons.  Since becoming a parent, there’s literally nothing I hate more than balloons.

My adventures continue to surprise me, as until I was in my late twenties I was basically a home-body and just wanted to stay indoors.  Now, I’ve modeled!  I’ve run a half-marathon!  I’ve done living history at National Parks and Battlefields!  I’ve run through the rain in the Caribbean and gone to seminars about tequila!

What’s coming next?

I can’t wait to find out!!

**NEW** I now have a YouTube Channel!  Check out my serial “The Lost Diary of Lady X” by clicking here!

  1. Love your glimpse of yourself. I’m completely with you on the likes AND dislikes, except I have a Droid not a smartphone. Found your blog because of your Civil War reenactment post. It’s one of my favorite eras of history.

    1. Thanks so much! I adore the Civil War. It was such a fascinating time period, probably due in part to the war, but such advancements in medicine and in society–it just is so interesting to me!

Our coffee maker broke last week and I felt–and probably looked–like a zombie. I don’t know how I managed to find my way to work, let alone have a productive day!

  2. Just found your blog. I’m working on historical fiction, like you are. I’m also a quitter–and my husband wishes I would quit this writing thing like I have everything else. (I’ve also quit 2 marriages…) As time goes by, though, the word count grows so maybe I’ll stick with something for once. Definitely will follow you!

    1. Thank you so much! What time period do you write about! I’ve even been known to be a quitter with my writing. But you’re absolutely right-my word count is growing! I’m going to stick with this one and see what happens.
